Motorola Unveils New Fixed Wireless Broadband Solution for Extended Connectivity

By Jayashree Adkoli, TMCnet Contributor

Motorola’s Enterprise Mobility Solutions business unit reportedly has added “PMP 430 wireless broadband distribution and access network solution” to its point-to-multipoint, or “PMP,’ fixed wireless broadband portfolio.

The latest offering, a point-to-multipoint fixed wireless broadband solution, makes it easier businesses, government agencies and service providers to provide extended high-speed connectivity to underserved and hard-to-reach locations and customers. It provides increased throughput rates and better range in the 5.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz frequency bands, according to Motorola (News - Alert).

Featuring orthogonal frequency divisional multiplexing technology, Motorola PMP 430 is a high-performance connectivity solution that can be co-located with company’s existing point-to-multipoint wireless broadband networks, thereby offering service providers with greater connectivity from their existing access point locations.

The OFDM technology enables the solution to offer higher throughput and long range - including line of sight and near-line of sight – performance, for reliable and secure connectivity of data, voice and video.

Moreover, PMP 430 features higher gain antennas. These antennas -- together with OFDM technology -- offer extended ranges of up to 40 miles (64 km) when the subscriber module is configured with a passive LENS or reflector.

In addition, PMP 430 also offers low one-way latency of less than 3.5 msec. This allows customers to provide high Quality of Service (QoS) for latency-sensitive voice and video services.

Officials with Motorola said that PMP 430 offers more than 40 Mbps of total aggregate throughput per access point sector. Additionally, the up gradation of throughput rates of the PMP 430 subscriber modules can be done easily from 4 to 40 Mbps via a software key system. This facilitates in meeting changing bandwidth requirements of customers.

The system can also deliver more than 160 Mbps of throughput -- from a single tower location to subscribers that are difficult to reach -- including those in multi-path urban or rural areas.

Furthermore, PMP 430 is an approved solution for providing broadband connectivity within the guidelines of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Available in the fourth quarter of 2009, PMP 430 wireless broadband distribution and access network solutions can be bought through Motorola channel partners and Motorola sales.
