Ooma Telo Brings Free, Quality Phone Service to More Homes
By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor
VoIP device manufacturer Ooma has announced its bringing better voice quality and cost savings to home users with the availability of Ooma Telo at more than 1,200 retail locations and online stores.
Officials with Ooma say the new device is designed to help free consumers from monthly fees and legacy phone carrier contracts by providing free, clear and reliable local and long distance U.S. calling using VoIP technology.
In addition, users receive caller ID, call waiting and 911 for free with Ooma Telo along with DECT (News - Alert) 6.0 technology to support future releases of the Ooma Telo Handset.
According to Eric Stang, CEO of Ooma, this latest offering helps expand home phone service into “an interactive and unified home communication platform.”
“The proliferation of broadband was the first step to delivering phone service over the Internet. Ooma takes it to the next level by providing free U.S. calling with outstanding call quality and no monthly fees or contracts,” said Stang.
Ooma Telo retails for $249.99 and is available at stores including Best Buy, Datavision, Amazon, Dell (News - Alert).com, OfficeDepot.com, Target.com, Walmart.com, and others.
The device also comes with a 60-trial of Ooma Premier, the company’s bundle of advanced calling features including the ability to forward voicemail messages and listen to them on a mobile phone or computer, as well as screen and intercept calls, and more.
Earlier this year, TMC CEO Rich Tehrani (News - Alert) caught up with Ooma officials in New York to preview the Telo device which Tehrani said, “looks like a blend of art and communications.”
“Anytime a company is able to break into a saturated industry like consumer voice with a new way of doing things it is impressive to me. Time will tell if a slick interface and hardware design coupled with free phone service makes for the killer device this holiday season but if consumers are still looking for hot-looking products which save them money, Ooma's Telo could be a hit this holiday season,” said Tehrani.
