Optimum Lightpath Unveils First High-Definition Voice Service for Businesses

By Shireen Dee, TMCnet Contributor

Optimum Lightpath (News - Alert), a provider of Ethernet-based communication solutions for New York metropolitan area based businesses, recently announced the introduction of the first High Definition (HD)-Voice service for mid-sized and large businesses. Optimum Lightpath enables smart businesses to enjoy the best quality voice calls within its premises and is supported by advanced Hosted Voice service, next-generation Cisco (News - Alert) IP phones and state-of-the-art Ethernet-based fiber optic network.

Compared to the standard G711 voice, HD voice consumes lesser bandwidth and it boosts Internet Protocol (IP) transit. This results in enhanced efficiencies across the spectrum of voice, data, Internet and video services running on the Optimum Lightpath's Ethernet-based fiber optic network.

The HD voice offering forms a part of Optimum Lightpath's Hosted Voice service, which is an end-to-end, customer-hosted voice and Internet solution delivered over a single connection and is now available to businesses in the New York metropolitan area.

"HD Voice demonstrates our commitment to innovation and continuous improvement of our services for smart businesses," said John Macario (News - Alert), senior vice president of Product Strategy and Management. "Understanding how smart technologies work together helps ensure the highest quality of service, a central focus of Optimum Lightpath and key enabler of the Smart Community of businesses," he added.

Optimum Lightpath’s HD Hosted Voice service implementation will result in significant cost reduction for businesses and lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) due to advanced IP features. The host of benefits offered by the Hosted Voice service includes true simplicity by means of a high-performance, feature-rich phone system with reliable support, and easy scalability by having provisions to increase bandwidth, minutes or add users, higher reliability with sub-50 millisecond resiliency of Lightpath's Intelligent Enterprise Network.

The overall management of the system is simplified by an easy-to-use administrator portal to make routine changes to extensions and user calling plans with minimal technical expertise.

"With the evolution of IP phones, we are now able to deliver HD-quality to businesses making intra-facility calls," said Steve Slattery, vice president and general manager, IP Communications, Cisco. "Optimum Lightpath goes above and beyond to deliver better quality, faster speeds and improved efficiencies and we are excited to be a part of its HD-Voice offering," he added.
