WiMAX Forum Certifies More 2.5 GHz Motorola Devices

By Vivek Naik, TMCnet Contributor

Motorola reportedly announced that the WiMAX (News - Alert) Forum has certified three of its devices that operate in the 2.5 Giga Hertz frequency range, and two are Customer Premises Equipment devices, the CPEi 25150 and the CPEi 25750, and one WiMAX Access Point (News - Alert), the WAP 25600.

The company says that these products join the WAP 25400, as reported by TMCnet, a device certified last June that provides operators with options to suit varying budgets and functions.

“Attaining WiMAX Forum certification on these products is an important milestone that validates the maturity and marketability of our WiMAX solutions,” said Darren McQueen, Vice President, Wireless Broadband Access Technologies, Motorola (News - Alert) Home and Networks Mobility. “Motorola is a global market leader in delivering and deploying 802.16e WiMAX networks and devices having shipped more than 6,600 3-sector and 4-sector access points and more than 360,000 CPEs and USB broadband modems at the end of 2008.”

The WiMAX Forum stamp of approval, as TMCnet reported, alerts prospective customers that the device meets IEEE (News - Alert) 802.16 standards, operates easily with other similarly stamped Wi-B access products from multiple vendors, and is cost-effective. It also guarantees providing efficient transmission to overcome network sluggishness occasionally experienced in the final stages of connectivity.

Motorola says that such certifications are an important step by the WiMAX Forum toward enhancing the ecosystem and advancing the widespread adoption of the WiMAX 802.16e standard around the world.

“Through our certification program the WiMAX Forum fosters an ecosystem of standards-based, interoperable solutions that meet exacting standards for interoperability and help drive economies of scale,” said Ron Resnick (News - Alert), president and chairman of the WiMAX Forum. “The recent certification of three more Motorola products enhances their portfolio and provides more choices for operators as they deploy wireless broadband services.”

The CPEi 25150 supports data only and the CPEi 25750 supports data and VoIP, and both are desktop plug and play devices that have high gain antennas, which surpass the WiMAX Forum’s specified receive sensitivity requirements across all modulation schemes.
The CPEi 25750 has two advanced technology attachment interface ports, and reduces the number of access points required to cover the area of operation. It is ideally suited for homes and small to medium offices.

The WiMAX WAP 25600 provides Multiple Input and Multiple Output connectivity with Non Line of Sight antennas to boost throughput, has fixed and mobile Wi-B ports, and when interfaced with a computer, for example, manages and allows different technologies to dual-direction transfer. The company says that it includes a spectrally efficient S-OFDMA interface and low latency performance.

“Our end-to-end WiMAX solution extends beyond just the infrastructure to the IP core, operations and maintenance, a full services portfolio, and CPEs, including these three recently-certified products,” McQueen said.
