Jungo's OpenRG Gateway Software Supports IPTV Providers

By Jyothi Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

Jungo Ltd, provider of software solutions for residential gateways, reportedly announced that its OpenRG residential gateway software now supports IPTV (News - Alert) providers, giving subscribers a user-friendly channel-switching experience that matches cable and satellite.

OpenRG is an integrated gateway software platform for developing network devices in the digital home and small office, including home and SOHO routers, home gateways, wireless access points, cable/DSL routers and voice gateways.

The company says its open and modular architecture features allow” quick integration of new applications, and APIs that allow simple modification for customer’s needs. It leverages one software platform across multiple networking gateway designs, to minimize engineering costs, and lower support costs.

Its new technology removes channel-switching overheads by employing an innovative mix of tactics, including an enhancement of the regular IGMP Leave and Fast-Leave. It supports monitoring of available resources such as bandwidth and virtual circuits, and intelligent bandwidth usage assumptions. It can be used on any off-the-shelf STB.

Comapany says that OpenRG, Jungo’s (News - Alert) complete residential gateway solution, helps service providers to successfully introduce and grow triple play services. By reducing channel switching time across their networks, IPTV service providers can be more confident that they will meet the expectations of their subscribers.

It supports all popular home networks and access networks, and includes high-performance feature-rich VAS enablers, such as QoS, VoIP, Firewall and Remote management, as well as a growing set of value-added services.

Arik Gilad, Jungo’s chief technology officer, said, “Channel switching time is a major issue in the IPTV industry. Jungo is pleased to be able to offer operators a solution that will deliver an enhanced experience to users, and therefore help service providers to grow their businesses.”
